Common Areas

We pride ourselves on the common spaces in our new campus. These spaces are designed to afford our students opportunities for collaboration and relaxation. However, to maintain these spaces as safe and comfortable spaces for all, inappropriate behavior (e.g. loud talking, running, etc.) that distracts from the academic atmosphere of our school will not be tolerated.

Eating and drinking are permitted in the common areas. However, students are expected to clean up after themselves and respect these public spaces.

Electronic devices (smart phones, tablets, and computers) are permitted in the building. However, phones that “appear” (whether in use or not) or ring during davening or in classrooms will be taken away for three school days. Furthermore, teachers are encouraged to create “technology free” times in the classroom, when tablets and computers will need to be turned off.

We recognize that the internet offers great opportunities, but also poses great dangers. We encourage families to install appropriate filters on all devices connected to the internet. ICJA will hold students responsible for what they post on the internet, both in and out of school. It is expected that members of the ICJA community will use all types of computing devices and the school’s network in a responsible, halachic, ethical, and legal manner.

While ICJA iPads may be used for personal needs, ICJA owns this device and retains the right to collect and/or inspect the iPad at any time and to alter, add, or delete installed software.

Lunchroom Behavior

  • All students are expected to express their awareness of G-d prior to meals by washing and reciting the appropriate bracha both before and after the meal.
  • Benchers will always be available in the lunchroom.
  • To maintain kashrut standards, no student may remove dishes or food from the commons area without the express consent of Mr. Harris.
  • Out of respect for others, no student may enter the lunch line anywhere but at the end, and at the conclusion of the meal all refuse must be placed in the receptacles provided.
  • Students are encouraged to invite staff members to the front of the line and should understand that staff members may request to do so.

Bullying

In a school where Torah study plays a central role in your learning, it is expected that you not only strive to excel in your studies, but that you also demonstrate how one lives in accordance with Torah and Mitzvot.

Therefore, it is expected that at all times you will act with courtesy towards the staff as well as your fellow students. Foul language is prohibited at all times. Harassment or “bullying” of any kind, whether verbal, physical or electronic even when in jest, will not be tolerated. If there is an accusation of such, the student may be called to appear before the Associate Dean. The Associate Dean has the authority to determine the appropriate action—i.e., detention, suspension or dismissal.
